We think: no one flees voluntarily.
A new beginning in a foreign country is very difficult. Therefore we want to get in touch with female refugees and LGBTIQ* and support them. We want to offer a shelter, give opportunities to learn something new, give assistance in everyday life and inform about the legal situation and the asylum procedure.
Now as ever women- and LGBTIQ*- specific causes of flight, like genital mutilation, forced marriage, prohibition of sexual self-determination, (sexual) violence within the family or by civil servants, compulsory labour etc., are neglected in public debate. The often particularly vulnerable group of women, children and LGBTIQ* is not protected sufficiently neither at the reception nor during the asylum procedure.
In this context IMEDANA e.V. wants to make an impact with his projects. Since 2007 IMEDANA e.V. is the supporting association of „Internationales Frauencafé“(International Women´s Café), a project which is addressed to female refugees. In 2018 we extended our focus with „Rosa Asyl“(Pink Asylum), now we advise and accompany female refugees and LGBTIQ*.
In 2016 we were able to start another project besides „Internationales Frauencafé“(International Women’s Café) named „Geflüchtete Frauen stärken“(Strengthen Female Refugees) thanks to the cooperation with Ingvild Goetz Philantrophy. In this project especially those women are supported, whose asylum procedure took a negative course and who now have to endure in an unsteady status of tolerance.

2. Open Café for women
Unfortunately the open café can’t take place at the moment. Normally we warmly invite all female refugees and their children and also interested women to a cosy get-together to getting to know each other. You can expect a varied framework programme or celebrations. We also offer a colourful children’s programme.
Tuesdays, from 13.30 to 15.30 o’clock
3. International Queer Café LGBTIQ*
Unfortunately the café can’t take place at the moment. Together with our cooperation partner Fliederlich e.V we normally invite LGBTIQ* refugees to an open café.
4. Mobile meet-up-tents for information and consultation
Through the construction of so called “Ankerzentren” it is more difficult for refugees to get in touch with the population and to get information. That’s why we regularly visit these centres to get directly in touch with our target group, to improve their admission standards, to give them required information and also to reach out to the particularly vulnerable women and LGBTIQ* persons.
5. German classes
Next courses in April 2021! Write us an E-Mail if you are interested!
In our German classes we want to strengthen you for the daily life in Germany so you can continue to use the capabilities you brought from your home country. As the number of participants is limited, please register for the German class before. We offer child care at the course. The travel costs can be refunded partly by us.
6. Excursions
Welcome to Nuremberg and surroundings. We want to give the opportunity to female refugees, their children and LGBTIQ* to get to know places and use them for leisure activities, culture and information. For example: the city library, swimming baths, sights, information centres, museums, festivals, parks, sports and a lot more.
7. Public Relations
We defend the social and political rights of refugees and migrants in the public, in the form of campaigns, panels, events, celebrations, press conferences or presentations in schools.
At the moment we can’t offer German classes and excursions anymore, due to the Corona lockdown. The open café as well can’t take place at the moment.
